Disclaimer

PropDesk helps you reason about a build using real physics and honest data. It is a planning aid, not an authority. This page explains the limits of what it can promise, and where your responsibility begins.

In short
  • Every number PropDesk shows is an estimate, not a measurement and not a guarantee.
  • Verify anything critical against datasheets and, where you can, against the bench, before you fly.
  • PropDesk does not check whether your build or your flight is legal. That remains yours to establish.
  • Building and flying drones can cause serious injury. You accept that risk yourself.

What PropDesk is, and how the numbers are produced

PropDesk estimates the flight characteristics of an electric multirotor from a mathematical model based on actuator-disk theory, combined with a component database compiled from manufacturer datasheets and published academic sources.

Every result is an estimate. Real performance depends on things the tool cannot see: build quality, wiring losses, propeller balance and pitch tolerance, temperature, wind, altitude, battery age and true discharge capability, firmware behaviour, and assembly accuracy.

Where our confidence in an input is limited, we say so in the interface: thrust figures derived from a model rather than a datasheet are labelled as approximate, and component data carries a quality level. We show ranges instead of single confident numbers on purpose. Treating an estimate as a guarantee is the most common way to be surprised on the bench.

No warranty

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows. In particular we do not warrant that:

  • the calculations, estimates, or component data are accurate, complete, current, or free of error;
  • the tool is fit for any particular build, mission, or purpose you have in mind;
  • the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or free of defects.

Nothing in this section removes warranties or rights that cannot be excluded under the mandatory consumer law of Portugal or of the country where you live.

Not engineering, safety, or professional advice

PropDesk provides no engineering certification, no airworthiness approval, and no professional advice. Its output is not a substitute for:

  • independent verification against manufacturer specifications;
  • physical bench testing of thrust, current draw, and temperature before flight;
  • review by a qualified engineer where the build is safety-critical: heavy-lift, autonomous operation, or flight over people.

No relationship of professional advice arises between us because you used the tool.

Uses this tool is not for

PropDesk is designed for civilian, non-critical drone building: hobby, sport, education, research, and light commercial work.

It must not be used to design, dimension, or validate:

  • any aircraft carrying a human being;
  • weapons systems or any equipment intended to cause harm;
  • medical transport or any application where a failure endangers a patient;
  • critical infrastructure, or any system where failure could cause widespread harm.

These uses demand certified engineering processes that a web tool cannot provide, and we exclude any liability arising from them.

Your responsibility

You are solely responsible for any drone you design, build, or fly using information from PropDesk. Before flight, you are expected to:

  • Verify independently: cross-check critical figures against datasheets and, where practical, against measured bench data.
  • Test safely: confirm structural integrity, secure wiring, adequate ESC and battery margins, and safe throttle and temperature behaviour.
  • Fly responsibly: respect people, property, privacy, and airspace.

A favourable result on screen is a reason to proceed to testing. It is never a reason to skip it.

Aviation rules are your obligation

Building and flying drones is regulated. In the European Union this includes the rules of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA); in Portugal, the requirements of the national civil aviation authority (ANAC); and elsewhere, the rules of your own authority.

Registration, remote-pilot competence, operational authorisation, insurance, weight categories, and geographical restrictions are all your responsibility to establish and to meet.

PropDesk does not assess regulatory compliance. The tool has no knowledge of where you are or what you intend to do, and a favourable calculation says nothing about whether an operation is lawful.

Assumption of risk

Drone construction and flight are inherently hazardous. Propellers cause serious injury. Lithium-polymer batteries can ignite. Aircraft fall.

By using PropDesk to inform a build, you acknowledge these risks and accept that you undertake them voluntarily and at your own risk.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of profit, data, or opportunity, or for damage to a drone, its components, or third-party property arising from a build you designed, assembled, or flew using output from PropDesk.

Where we are found liable, and to the extent the law allows liability to be limited, our total liability towards you for all claims arising in any twelve-month period is limited to the total amount you paid us for the service in that period.

Nothing here excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, and for wilful misconduct or gross negligence. If you are a consumer, your mandatory statutory rights are unaffected.

Third-party data and links

Component data is compiled from manufacturer datasheets and published sources. We check what we publish and record where each figure came from, but we do not control those sources and cannot guarantee that a manufacturer's own figure is correct or current. Manufacturers routinely publish optimistic values; where we know a figure to be unreliable, we say so.

PropDesk links to third-party shops, some as affiliate links. We do not control those sites, their prices, their stock, or their terms, and we take no responsibility for them. See our Affiliate Disclosure.

We will update this disclaimer as the tools develop. The version number and effective date at the top of this page always show the current version.
